This Month in Internet (September 2017)

Not that many videos this month. Not sure if it's because my favorite creators haven't been putting out as much stuff, or if I'm just not watching as much as usual. I have been getting busier and busier with my own YouTube channel, which does leave less time for watching other people's oh well. I do have a few videos to share, so let's get on with them!

Peter Hollens released a video with 'Ten Second Songs' that I just loved, which is ironic, because I actually really don't like this song, but they managed to put a spin on it that I loved.

Also I now really want Peter to sing more opera songs. :p

A channel that I recently discovered, 8 Bit Universe, released an 8-bit cover of Toto's Africa. I never knew how much I needed this to exist!

The Warp Zone did another of their geeky acapella themes, this time mashing up the various themes from different Star Trek shows.

I haven't really gotten into Star Trek yet, but I remember watching Voyager quite a bit as a teenager, so when that part of their compilation came up, I got a bit of a nostalgia hit. :)

There haven't been that many updates to one of my favorite websites, homestarrunner.com, in recent years, but on their twitter account, run by fan-favorite character, Strong Bad, they have been releasing these ridiculous little drawing 'tutorials' by Strong Bad. They've all been funny, but this one made me laugh a lot.

We'll end this post with another Kulning video by Jonna Jinton. I just love her voice. She's like a vision of a time, long, long ago.

TWZIA (The Warp Zone Is Awesome)

The Warp Zone has been KILLING it these last few months with their a-capella theme covers, so I just had to make a whole seperate post to feature them.

To start, I posted this once awhile ago, but Gravity Falls is probably my all time favorite cartoon, and I love their cover, so here it is again.

One of my other favorite cartoons in recent years has been Steven Universe, and I absolutely love the music from it. So many people have been covering the music, I may end up doing a Steven Universe post by itself, but for now, here's the theme, as sung by The Warp Zone. Also please ignore the costumes. They seem to find it hilarious to look their worst when they sing female parts, (See Mabel above) and the bulk of the cast of Steven Universe is female. (Though that doesn't explain Greg, {bottom left} who they've somehow managed to make look far worse than the female characters)



As you can tell, they always dress up like the characters from whatever piece of media they are covering, and when a piece of media has a prominent female character, they will sometimes bring in a guest singer, like this cover of John Williams' Harry Potter theme, where they brought in my favorite YouTube baker who also sings, Rosanna Pansino. :)



And from one John Williams theme to another, (I swear I didn't plan this!) my all time favorite Star Wars theme, Duel of the Fates!



One of my all time favorite shows (that only premiered last year) is Stranger Things, and I love this cover of the theme music. :)



And last but not least, from one Netflix show to another, my latest absolute favorite show, (And I'm not being hyperbolous, I love this show SO MUCH) the theme to Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

TIIA 23 (The Internet is Awesome)

Let's start this post off right with another amazing song by Pentatonix. It's a medley of songs by Perfume, a Japanese pop group, and it's amazing.



Speaking of Pentatonix, you have got to see this video that Scott made for his and Mitch's personal channel, Superfruit. It is definitely not a Pentatonix song, but it's so good anyway.



Moving on to something completely different, the Gregory Brothers songified Cool Runnings, a movie from my family's childhoods that we watched many times.



As someone who grew up listening to classical music, and eventually discovered a cappella music, I absolutely loved this video by Jon Cozart.



Anyone who knows me probably knows how much I absolutely loved the show Gravity Falls. It has very sadly ended now, but this amazing cover of the theme song by The Warp Zone did help numb the pain a bit.



BYU's a capella group, Vocal Point doesn't seem to post on a regular basis, but whenever they do, you know it's going to be worth the wait.



VoicePlay + Panic at the Disco = I never knew I needed this!



As I seem to do all the time, lets end this post with another Peter Holens video. He recently released an entire album of music from and based on the The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. As amazing as every song on the album was, by far my favorite was this song with Hank Green.

JPIA (Jurassic Park is Awesome)

I know it's been a few months since Jurassic World was released, but as I said before, I'm behind in my blogging. Leading up to the release of the film, a number of YouTubers did tributes to the franchise with some awesome videos. I meant to post them, but, well, you know. Anyway, better late than never, right? :)

In case you need a refresher, I thought about including a trailer for Jurassic World, but I'm sure you've already seen it, at this point it's pretty impossible to have not at least seen a trailer. Instead, I'm including this utterly brilliant (and utterly ridiculous) parody trailer. It's just too funny.



And if we're going to be showing one parody, I can't not include this one. After Jurassic World came out, it seemed that all anyone wanted to talk about was Claire's shoes, as she had worn high heels through the entire thing. So some genius came up with this brilliant insanty.



Ok, so now that we're done with the parodies, lets get into the good stuff. The music. Starting with The Piano Guys. Amazing as always.



Next up was violinist Taylor Davis.



Then the YouTube Channel The Warp Zone, teamed up with Peter Hollens for this.



As great as that was, Peter Hollens fans really wanted a Peter only version, so he did it again himself. The results were everything we'd hoped for.



Jurassic Park is one of my all time favorite films and franchises, and a huge part of that is thanks to John Williams score. All these guys (And girl. :) ) took his music and made it their own in the best way possible.
