Last Month Online (June 2018)

Lots of music this month. I suppose to make up for the abundance of comedy last month. :)

We'll open and close this post with Lindsey Stirling, who made two amazing videos this month!

Lindsey wasn't the only busy one this month, Peter Hollens put out three amazing songs as well! I'll spread these out as well. Each one was with a different guest artist, including The Hound + The Fox, who put out a separate song of their own, which I will include later on as well. :)

Devin Graham has done a video like this next one before, and it was just hilarious. But apparently I never featured it on my blog! So if you'd like to see the original before you watch this one, you can click here. However, of the two, this one is my favorite, partially because of the hilarious, epic waterfall dive, but kind of mostly because of the HILARIOUS cameo/twist ending reveal.

Jonna Jinton is back with another haunting song. I love her voice so much!

I don't think I've ever featured Ryan Higa on my blog before, he usually does comedy skits, but this video was so creative, I just had to share. I love dancing, I love stop-motion animation, and this was like the perfect creative fusion of the two.

One of the reasons Peter Hollens had so many great songs this month, is that he just released a new album, comprised entirely of folk music. One of my favorite genres is European/Celtic folk music, which is mainly what this album contains.

Tessa Violet is back! I absolutely love the aesthetic of this video, and it's nothing more than her just singing in a grocery store! I swear, she can make the most mundane things just seem brilliantly creative!

Every time I watch this video I wonder about the logistics of the shoot. Did she rent out a whole store to shoot in, or did she just film in a store while it was open? Are the random shoppers all paid extras, or are they all just random shoppers? How did she get up on the freezers? I feel like the staff has to either be part of the shoot or were prepped in advance, because I can't see any normal grocery manager being okay with any of this. :p Anyway, sometimes I dissect these videos too much. :p

I've never been a very big country musc fan, but somehow, when it's done a capella, it's just elevated to something so much better than just 'country music.' And VoicePlay are just excellent at what they do.

Scarborough Fair is such an iconic folk song, it's hard to improve on some versions I've heard, particularly Celtic Woman comes to mind, but Somehow The Hound + The Fox manages to put their own, amazing spin on it. And the music isn't the only amazing thing about this video, just look at their locations! The lavender fields and the ancient forest are just gorgeous!

One last Peter Hollens before we close. I actually bought his new album twice, once digitally for myself, and once for my parents' anniversary gift, because they love folk music too. This music is so good!

And finally, the Lindsey Stirling video I promised at the beginning. I love this one so much! I also love that she was dancing without her violin in a lot of it! I know she learned a lot more about dance when she competed on Dancing With the Stars, so I'm glad to see her getting to use her new skills.

Last Month Online (March 2018)

This post is a lot later than normal, but I've kind of had a lot going on this past couple of weeks. I'm sure there will be blog posts about what I've been doing eventually. :)

One of my favorite videos this month was really just about the song. There wasn't much of a video to this one, but I loved it anyway. I grew up playing Kirby games, so this was just like a two minute long hit of nostalgia for me. :)

Mike Tompkins covered a song from The Greatest Showman, which I still haven't seen. If the reviews are to be believed, (and the movie is as good as the music I've heard) apparently I'm really missing out. Oh well. I'm sure I'll see it eventually. :)

Joe Jeremiah is back with another amazing medley of songs, this one is a bunch of random tv shows, and when I say random, I mean random! Everything from Rugrats, to Stranger Things, to The X-Files, to Thomas the Tank Engine! I loved it so much!

Pentatonix has been on a role lately! I love this new cover they put out last month!

Next, we've got a video from VoicePlay, covering a medley of 80's cartoons. I love a good acapella medley, and this one was no exception. It was so good. :)

Last up, we have a brand new Owl City Music Video! His new album is getting closer every day and I can't wait! The songs I've heard so far have been so good! :D

Okay, that was the last video for this post, however, I had two other videos that I was going to include, but I decided to spin them off into their own posts. One was a video about a person that I thought just deserved her own post, and the other was a ridiculous Studio C sketch that I thought could probably benefit from some context before you watched it. I'll put the Studio C post up tomorrow, and the profile post the day after that. Stay Tuned! :)

Last Month Online (October 2017)

Okay, as you can see, I've decided to change the title of this series. Again. Previously it was called This Month in Internet, but sometimes it's just too hard to get everything ready to go on the last day of the month. I usually ended up writing it on the first and pre-dating the post anyway, just for the sake of the title. So yesterday, November 1st, I was too busy, trying to get a video up, running errands, and scheduling an online meeting with a friend to film a video for a new series, and I just didn't have time to blog. Rather than beat myself up about missing an arbitrary deadline, I'm moving the deadline. By changing the title of the series. It's now called Last Month Online, technically giving me a full month of leeway, but I'm still going to try to have it up at the beginning of the month.

Anyway, now that that's over with, let's get to the new logo, and on with the post!

Since October is Halloween Month, let's just get my one Halloween video out of the way. I know you probably just want to move on to the next holiday, but I promise this one is worth it. Plus, like the movie it came from, you could also classify it as a Christmas video. :p

Ellen just seems to have a knack for finding the most talented kids from all over the world. I don't know how she does it, (actually I probably do, she can afford to pay people to scour the internet looking for talent.) but however she finds them, I'm glad she does.

Walk Off the Earth's Taekwondo was my jam this summer, and I am loving this acoustic version.

This video is criminally short. Like, how dare he make something this amazing and only give me 60 seconds of it!!!

Mystery Guitar Man is back! Okay, this was only one video, and it was a sponsored video, so he's not really back, I wish he'd make more videos like these again. I guess I'll just enjoy this one for a year and a half (or just a few months if I'm not being overly dramatic. :p) till some other brand gives him some more money. :p

We'll end this with another amazing video from Lindsey Stirling. Technically I could have use two this month, but the other one was a Christmas video to promote her new album, so I'm saving that one for a future Christmas post. :)

The Internet is Awesome 25 - Year End Extravaganza!

 photo TIIAcolor_zpshc41rmb6.png

It's my last post of the year! And as such, I decided to make it almost twice as long! No special reason, except that I still have a ton of videos saved that I need to use in posts. :p

Let's start off this final post with another Hollens Disney song. They are just magical together. :)

Leave it to Kurt Hugo Schneider and Kina Grannis to come up with something like this. I already loved this song, but this unique spin on it is just so good.

This next video is an utterly amazing rendition of Danny Elfman's Spiderman theme done spectacularly by Lindsey Stirling and Lang Lang. It is so incredible. It makes me nostalgic for the days when we actually had memorable themes and scores in movies.

I have a bit of a confession. I have never really liked the song Danny Boy. I've always thought it was way too schmaltzy, and even years ago when my favorite artists like Charlotte Church or Celtic Woman covered it, I just wasn't that impressed. I don't think it's a bad song, I just never cared for it. I actually cared so little for it that when Peter Hollens announced he was starting an email newsletter and giving away an exclusive track to anyone who subscribed, I was so disappointed and actually did not subscribe when I found out that it was Danny Boy. Then he released a video. I couldn't believe it. For the first time in my life, I LOVED a version of Danny Boy. How foolish I had been. I immediately went and signed up for his newsletter to get the track. :p

Pentatonix's Scott Hoying and Mitch Grasi, who have been best friends since they were little kids, have had their own YouTube channel for years now, Superfruit, on which they normally post vlogs and challenge videos, but lately they've been putting out some great stuff, including this cover of a Katy Perry song. Hopefully they keep this up! As entertaining as they can be when they aren't busy as part of Pentatonix, they are at their best when they are singing.

Recently there was a Disney movie called The Queen of Katwe released in theaters. It is about a girl from Africa who becomes a chess champion. It sounded really unique, and I wanted to go see it, but I pretty much never have time to go to the theater. However, Disney released a song from the movie on their Vevo channel, and it is amazing. I was tempted to buy the soundtrack based on this song alone. I didn't, because I like to see movies before I start buying their merchandise, but still, how great is this song!? Now I need to see this movie!

A couple months ago I discovered a British show called Yonderland. It is about a 30-something mother of two that gets sucked into a portal in her pantry to a magical land where she has to fight monsters and save the world. And also it's full of songs and puppets. It's like they made it for me. :p This song was one of the best parts of the show.

Pogo has been one of my absolute favorite electronic remix artists for years, and this video is everything I love about him.

I heart Tessa Violet.

I love it when my favorite things collide into one giant mashup of awesome! Twenty One Pilots, Kurt Hugo Schneider, and VoicePlay!

This song is literally everywhere, but thankfully everyone seems to put a new spin on it, and the Piano Guys are no exception. :)

Technically Pentatonix did this song for their new Christmas album, but I've never thought of this song as a Christmas song, so it didn't go in my Christmas post. Either way, they killed it. :)

Everything that Bad Lip Reading does is incredibly stupid. But for some reason I can't help but love it anyway. This song was one of my favorite things they have done in ages. It's so dumb, but so catchy. Also, I almost died laughing at "That log had a child!"

We'll end this with another amazing video from Lindsey Stirling. And she's themed it around Alice in Wonderland. This video is everything! :D

TIIA 24 (The Internet is Awesome)

 photo TIIAcolor_zpshc41rmb6.png

This week was Halloween, and while I don't have enough videos to do a dedicated Halloween post, I did want to feature the couple I did have, (both Disney related of course :p) starting with this awesome video from VoicePlay.

And then there was this one with Jon Cozart and a group I had not heard of before, Voctave.

And after that I followed the link to another amazing video that they did with Pentatonix's Kristen Maldonado.

So basically I found yet another awesome a-capella group to follow. :p

Something almost as scary as Halloween, Politics. I know, I know, normally I  won't touch politics on my blog with a ten foot pole, but there were a couple recent videos that pertain to the election that were just too good not to share.

Anyone following the election will remember the uproar earlier this year when Melania Trump seemed to have plagiarized a large portion of her speech from a speech that Michelle Obama had given a few years back. Well, the Gregory Brothers took those two speeches and turned them into something amazing.

And then there was this video that made me laugh till it hurt from Funny or Die.

Okay, enough of this scary stuff, back to the regular post. :p

The Hound + the Fox don't post often but, but when they do, it's sure to be good. Case in point, this excellent cover of For the Dancing and the Dreaming, from How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Alaa Wardi's a capella is always amazing, but this, very different, very not-a-cappella video he made in partnership with Reeses is a completely different kind of amazing. I love it.

Pentatonix recently put out this remix of their hit single, Can't Sleep Love, and even though this remix is no longer an a cappella song, I think I might love this version even more!

This video from A Capella Science is just amazing, you have to watch it. I can't even describe it, just watch it.

Evynne Hollens' tradition of Disney-fying popular songs continues in this massive collab with a bunch of other YouTubers, including Nick Pitera as Hans, and Peter Hollens as... Snow White?! Yes, it's as amazing as it sounds. :p

TIIA 23 (The Internet is Awesome)

 photo TIIAcolor_zpshc41rmb6.png

Let's start this post off right with another amazing song by Pentatonix. It's a medley of songs by Perfume, a Japanese pop group, and it's amazing.

Speaking of Pentatonix, you have got to see this video that Scott made for his and Mitch's personal channel, Superfruit. It is definitely not a Pentatonix song, but it's so good anyway.

Moving on to something completely different, the Gregory Brothers songified Cool Runnings, a movie from my family's childhoods that we watched many times.

As someone who grew up listening to classical music, and eventually discovered a cappella music, I absolutely loved this video by Jon Cozart.

Anyone who knows me probably knows how much I absolutely loved the show Gravity Falls. It has very sadly ended now, but this amazing cover of the theme song by The Warp Zone did help numb the pain a bit.

BYU's a capella group, Vocal Point doesn't seem to post on a regular basis, but whenever they do, you know it's going to be worth the wait.

VoicePlay + Panic at the Disco = I never knew I needed this!

As I seem to do all the time, lets end this post with another Peter Holens video. He recently released an entire album of music from and based on the The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. As amazing as every song on the album was, by far my favorite was this song with Hank Green.

TIIA 14 (The Internet is Awesome)

 photo TIIAcolor_zpshc41rmb6.png

Let's open this post with a flashback to childhood. If your childhood was spent watching PBS in the 90's.

And speaking of childhood in the 90's... Stuart Edge and Peter Hollens recently came together and created something AMAZING. AMAZING!

There is also a second version, which is even better than the first.

VoicePlay doesn't release as many videos as other big name accapella YouTubers do, but when they do, they're alway's worth watching.

Steam Powered Giraffe is literally the best giraffe-themed steam-punk robot band that has ever existed.

I don't understand anything about this song, but the video is one of my favorite Mika videos ever.

When Star Wars came out at the end of December, it seemed like everyone and their grandmother was making a video for the occasion. But as is to be expected, Peter Hollens' video was the best of the best. :p

We'll end this with a video that has literally been YEARS in the making. Back in the day, Devin Graham and Lindsey Stirling used to make just about every music video together. They pretty much completed this tribute video for the game Final Fantasy, when they found out that the video game's publishing company was going to be a huge butt and block the video if they put it up. Devin tried for years to get them to change their minds, before he finally won them over. He finished the video last year, and released it at the end of the year. It's amazing!

TIIA3 (The Internet is Awesome)

You know the drill, the internet is awesome, here are a few examples.

Lindsey Stirling recently covered a Hatsune Miku song, and it was amazing.

Next is a song by Sia. Sia has become one of my favorite artists, but I have hesitated to share some of her videos, because of their controversial nature. This performance of "Elastic Heart," from Ellen, was awesome, and, as far as I know, completely uncontroversial, so I'm sharing away!

Speaking of Sia, Alaa Wardi recently covered Chandelier, and it was just as awesome as the original!

Peter Hollens just released his cover of The Hanging Tree from the Hunger Games, and it was amazing.

Next is the first musical outing by YouTuber Brittani Louise Taylor who is know for her skits, vlogs, and occasional musical parodies. She has never tried her hand at writing her own song before, and I think she did pretty good for a first try!

I recently discovered a new acapella group called VoicePlay, and if you know me, you know I love me some good acapella. And VoicePlay is good acapella. Here they are covering Lana Del Rey's version of "Once Upon a Dream" from Maleficent.

Let's finish this off with another Peter Hollens video, Song of The Lonely Mountain, from The Hobbit. If you're a Lord of the Rings fan, you should totally check out Peter's covers of the songs from all the movies. They're all so great.

That's all for now, hopefully it won't be another 3 months before I do one of these!
