Does no one know what proofreading is anymore?! And if they do, do they know how to spell? Normally it doesn't bother me that much, but in the last few days it seems like there have been far more words being publicly slaughtered on facebook than ever before. Do people even care that they look like a babbling idiot when they type that way? The sad thing is, I know that in a lot of cases, these people are not stupid. They are very smart individuals who have just typed too fast, but the spelling is so atrocious that if they had bothered to read what they wrote before hitting enter they would have caught the mistake.
America is becoming dumber by the decade, and it doesn’t have to be that way. If people weren’t so apathetic about basic skills, everyone would be so much smarter than they are now. Instead we have kids who think that spelling and math are stupid, and unimportant. If they think that this attitude is going to get them a respectable job in the future, they are sadly mistaken.
I know it’s not fun, and it’s downright boring to go back and read something before you submit it, but if it means the difference between being seen as a derp-faced buffoon, or an intelligent human being, isn’t it worth it? If it’s not, you deserve all the derision you receive.
Okay. Freak out over. I just had to get that off my chest. I promise, the next time I write something it will be a lot more fun. :)
