Gesture Drawings 5

These are the last of the 25 Gesture Drawings. All in all, I was surprised at how well I did overall on this assignment, and I had fun doing it.

Gesture Drawings

One of the more extensive projects we did in Drawing 1 was that we did 25 Gesture Drawings. I’ll post a few at a time since there are so many. Most of these are done from pictures of athletes and dancers I found on the internet.

Friends

Just a brief post tonight before I finally go to bed. It has been a long hard day, but with everything bad, you can usually find something good. I was invited to a party to see my friend who I haven’t seen in a year, but after this whole getting sick/ending up in the hospital ordeal, I decided I couldn’t go. I was just to weak to do anything. I was very disappointed because I haven’t seen my friend since last year, and I hardly ever get to see him at all any more since he moved out of Harlan.

So to recap, I’ve been in the hospital all day, pretty much the worst day of my life, and then I’m going to miss my friends party, and he’ll be gone for who knows how long again.

Except he decided to come out and visit me. He couldn’t stay long, but just the fact that he came to see me at all was more than enough.

Treasure your friends. True friends are hard to come by. I don’t have many, but as I’ve told people before, I’ll take quality over quantity any day.

Ink Wash Self Portrait

I didn’t think this turned out so great, but I do like it better than my first one.10
Other that the self portrait I did for my Design one class, this was my last self portrait.

So, where have I been?

I suppose some of you wondering why I haven’t been updating as frequently, especially since you know I have more art from Last semester to post. Well, actually I have been pretty sick. I started feeling bad at the beginning of the month and made the mistake of thinking I could just take care of it myself. Well, apparently I was wrong. I just kept getting sicker. These last two weeks, I’ve been basically lying on the couch miserable. finally last week, mom took me to the doctor. He gave me medicine and said come back in a week. Well yesterday mom took me to a different doctor who ordered tests, blood work, etc, saw I was in bad shape and admitted me to the hospital. Thankfully she let me go home this afternoon, so I only had to be there for a day.

I’m not going into the details of what was wrong, or what I went through, you probably don’t want them anyway as most of it is severe TMI, but it was a horrible experience. So if you start feeling bad in a way that you have never cured yourself for before, let someone know, don’t just automatically assume you can fix yourself. I posted on my facebook that I learned that I hate hospitals. They're like drugs. Good if you need them, but otherwise to be avoided at all costs!

I'd never been in a hospital before and it was horrible. :( I even had to break my own no drugs ever rule and ask for something for anxiety so I didn't freak out. :( To make matters worse I knew some of my nurses. THAT was embarrassing. :( One is even a friend from work who works both places. Thankfully the other nurses took care of the most embarrassing details last night, so she didn’t have to. I might have had to move to Antarctica. But I knew my nurse today too. I don’t know her as well, and she did have to do the embarrassing stuff, but she was really nice about it. Most of my nurses were super nice, though one started out nice but got grumpy as the night worse on. I was glad when her shift ended!

One “Upside” is that in the last month I’ve lost 20 pounds from not eating enough since I felt sick, but this is definitely not a healthy way to lose weight. I don’t plan to gain it back though.

So anyway, that’s my story, and you can expect more regular updates to resume soon. I have at least one other one coming tonight.

Spicy Tuna Noodle Soup

The other day mom had a meeting, so I threw together another soup.
Make the cream of mushroom soup according to the directions, and add tuna, don’t drain it. I used water to make the cream of mushroom soup, but you can add milk if you want.
December '10 139
Chop up an onion and four carrots, and bring the soup to a boil. cook these for about ten minutes.
December '10 140
December '10 141
Add two cans of mushrooms and three cans of peas, don’t drain these.
December '10 142
I added quite a bit of cayenne pepper, but if you have an aversion to spice, this is optional.
December '10 144
Check directions on the box before adding any pasta. You can cook it in advance if you want, or add directly to the soup. If you add it to thr soup, you will probably need to add extra water. I chose little stars for mine.
December '10 143
I added the whole box, but you don’t need to. It ended up being a lot of stars.
But it was still good.
I’ve been making soup so much that we’ve had lots of extra, and it has come in quite handy as we’ve all been pretty sick around here. Soup is just about the only thing that has been sounding good, so its been nice to have on hand.

Ink Wash Still Life

If the last still life was a mess of boxes, this was even worse! It was just a pile of junk!

It turned out a lot better than I thought it would though.

Christmas Cookies

Yesterday my family made a ton of little Christmas cookies. This was partially because dad had an order for them, but there was a lot of extra too.

December '10 127

Jacob used the “Caulk Gun” to squirt out the cookies.

December '10 129

December '10 130

It’s actually called a cookie press, and it’s a pretty handy little thing. It makes all sorts of shapes.

December '10 135

Mom sprinkling sanding sugar on the cookies.

December '10 132

Dad taking pans out of the oven.

December '10 138

They’re done!

James decided to help by making a pile of dough into a snowman.

December '10 125

Not sure how it helped, but it was funny. Smile

Charcoal Drawing

Our next assignment in Drawing one was a drawing in Charcoal. I feel like I just made a mess with mine. I suppose this was appropriate considering that what we were drawing was a mess. Our still life was just a big pile of boxes. So much fun…

I did find it interesting that we were also given a piece of white charcoal. I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as white charcoal.
I didn’t have a very good time with the charcoal, but I’ve seen some impressive work done with it. Hopefully if we have another charcoal assignment in Drawing 2 we will be given some tips on how to use it better, and not just be handed the charcoal and paper and told to draw that. I think it could be a good medium, if I knew what I was doing with it.

New Background!

After fiddling around in Microsoft Paint, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop all afternoon, I have finally made myself a halfway descent background. This is what it looks like before it gets tiled across the page.

It isn’t perfect, but I am pretty happy with it. Let me know what you think! Smile

Cross Contoured Self Portrait

The fourth week we again worked on another self portrait. This one turned out quite a bit better, but the fact that we had to cross contour them kind of ruined it in my opinion.

A Few More Background Sketches

I did a few more sketches today, so I thought I’d share them.
Sketches 020
This one is a bit of a weird one. At first I was going to do a dragon, but then I decided to make it into a reimagining of an Apatosaurus type dinosaur. Sort of like if the Apatosaurus had been what people thought of as dragons. So this dragon has no wings. I call it a Dragonosaurus. Smile I will probably do more actual dinosaurs later on, because I love dinosaurs.
Sketches 021
A Gummy Bear. The best candy ever. Smile with tongue out
Sketches 022
This flower I found on line, and it was labeled a Passion Fruit Flower. It was so cool and unique that I had to draw it.
Sketches 023
Like I said yesterday, I’m a space nerd, so I had to draw another space related picture. This one is a comet. Or an asteroid. Whatever you want it to be. Smile
Sketches 024
I call this little guy my Wee Little Squid. Smile I love all cephalopods. I don’t think I would ever want one of my own, or to ever even touch one, because they’re all slimy and tentacle-y and sort of creepy, but I love them anyway. I don’t know why, I just do. And the little ones are just so cute!
Sketches 025
I was looking for a picture of a hummingbird to draw, when I came across a picture of an innocent little hummingbird sitting on a feeder, looking up at a menacing, but still adorable hummingbird hovering over it like it was going to attack it. So I drew the attacking hummingbird. Because even cute animals can be dangerous. Smile
